Spiced Hot Chocolate Ice Cream Float

Here is a lovely recipe that is a perfect treat for these shorter days and will help chase away the winter blues!

The inspiration for this partly comes from my old school dinners – hot custard and ice cream was always such a treat.  This is a little more refined, but that combination of hot and cold comes with a good dollop of nostalgia for me!  My other inspiration is Yogi tea, which is a deliciously spiced warming drink, I mean, what is not to love?

Ingredients (serves 1)

  • 250ml milk of your choice (milk with a higher fat content gives a silkier textured drink)
  • 4 squares good quality dark chocolate
  • Pinch nutmeg
  • Generous pinch cinnamon
  • Vanilla sugar to taste
  • 1 generous scoop chocolate ice cream

Method

Heat the milk – either in the microwave or on the stove, taking care that it does not boil over.

Remove from heat, and add in the squares of chocolate and spices, stirring gently to dissolve.  Add vanilla sugar to taste.

Pour into a mug, and top with a scoop of ice cream.

Presentation Tips

Making it vegan friendly – I have followed a plant based diet now for nearly 2 years.   I am glad to say that creating a vegan hot chocolate is no problemo!  There are easily available plant based milks, chocolate and ice cream to be found in most supermarkets.
