Whenever planning a shoot, thought needs to be given to the styling – from how the food is cooked and presented through to the choice of accessories and props.  When photographing for a client, I need to make sure the styling is appropriate to the brand – so that the resulting imagery is communicating the right message.

However, on occasion I ditch styling (well it’s still there, but much subtler).

Right now I’m photographing a range of seasonal produce.  British summer fruits that are at their best right now.  Think of luscious peaches and apricots, cherries, gooseberries and other soft fruits.  All our fruits have such beautiful and interesting form, colour and texture that they don’t necessarily need much help to look fabulous!

Simply apricots!

A Little Background

Although the shape and texture of fruit breaks down with cooking, there is still a beauty in the juicy texture and colour of this roasted fruit.  A touch of fresh thyme and an extra drizzle of syrup is all this dessert needs to look (and taste!) fab.  Just a little styling can go a long way 😊

If you would like to see examples of styling you might like to take a look at the following:

  • Pioneer Retail – imagery complimented with ingredients to help communicate the flavours in their foods.
  • The Handmade Ice Cream Company – accessories used within the images were sourced in complimentary colours to the brand
